She's Home!

Mom is finally home! Her radiation treatments are finished, and yes she can tell a difference. She says she can walk, get up and down, and move easier. That is a big improvement! She is happy to be in her own bed and to be able to see her crazy grandchildren, loving ward members, and of course her favorite daughter! :)

While they have been gone Kanani and I (Lehua) have been checking up on Robert. Bringing him milk, taking him to cash his checks, taking him to EAC basketball games, and firesides. Boy are we glad dad is home!

Dad has become an expert pill and shot giver. Mom says he is much better at giving the shots now that he has had practice. At first it was kinda painful because he was trying to be nice, but now he gets in there and gets it done!

About the radiation. . .I think maybe we finally have the story strait. Mom would lie on her back and they would line the machine up with four marks on her belly (she swears the marks will never come off). It would start on her belly than rotate around to her back and than back to her belly the same way it came. The radiation focused on her spine. Aww her spine not her ribs! Anyway like I said above she can tell a difference with the pain and she and we are grateful for that.

The next step is to start chemo. Mom will see the oncologist on Tuesday and will get more information on when it will start. So until then mom is doing, well I'd love to say great and someday I will but for now she says she is in sensible condition. She is taking each day as it comes. And again thank-you to everyone who is bringing in dinners and showing your love in so many other ways!

  1. I would like to also share some info from Norma's stay with us. This is on my personal blog but I have copied it here for any who are interested....

Behold there shall one be ordained among you, and to him will I give power that he shall break bread and bless it and give it unto the people of my church, unto all those who shall believe and be baptized in my name. 3 Nephi 18:5

Today, Sunday Jan.11th, I just wanted to let you know of a special tender moment in our family. As you know Aunt Norma and Uncle Stan have been spending quite a bit of time with us as Norma goes through radiation treatments for the cancer that has invaded her body. Currently the radiation is being focused on the cancer in her lungs, although it has permeated other parts of her body as well. Chemo is the next step on the horizon.

Anyway, Aunt Norma has been unable to attend sacrament meeting due to her illness and has missed not being able to partake of the sacrament. Today dad received permission from his Bishop for Stan and him to administer those ordinances here at home for Norma. Dad explained this to Norma and then they set out one lone piece of bread on a plate and a small glass with a little bit of water in it. Dad broke the bread which he explained needed to be done even for one piece of bread, to represent the Savior's body being broken, then Stan gave the sacrament prayer over it and it was given to Aunt Norma to eat. Then the glass of water was set on the table and dad gave the sacrament prayer, with the water representing the Savior's blood, and Stan gave the water to Aunt Norma to drink. Mom and I both had tears in our eyes for the feeling of reverence and care for the Lord that was demonstrated by dad and Stan with such care and love. We are blessed to be able to renew this vital ordinance each week that helps us to always remember Him and to keep His commandments, as well as being able to renew our baptismal covenants and to repent of our wrongdoings.

I am so grateful for the priesthood holders in our family, every one of them, young or old, for their examples and willingness to act for the Lord. Later this year, Austin will turn 12 and he too will be ordained a deacon and a priesthood holder and will be able to pass the sacrament as well as other duties. More Sunday blessings!
